This page describes the virtual try-on that opens when you press Try on on a shop's product page, and the demo at lookwelltryon.com. It is written in plain language on purpose. If something here is unclear, write to me and I will fix the wording.

The camera

When you press Try on, your browser asks for permission to use your camera. If you allow it, the video is shown back to you and the glasses are drawn on top of it. Everything that makes that work — finding your face, measuring it, positioning the frame — runs inside your browser, on your device.

The video stream is never uploaded. There is no recording, no screenshot, and no frame of it is transmitted anywhere. When you close the try-on or leave the page, the camera stops and nothing of it remains.

What we store about you

Nothing. We have no account for you, no profile, and no record that you used the try-on. We do not know who you are, and we could not tell the shop even if they asked.

Cookies and browser storage

The try-on sets no cookies and writes nothing to your browser's storage. Nothing is left behind that could recognise you on a later visit.

Files your browser downloads

To run the try-on, your browser downloads the software that does the work. Some of it comes from our own address, and some from two services that host such files for everyone:

• cdn.jsdelivr.net — the 3D and face-detection libraries
• storage.googleapis.com — the face-detection model file, published by Google

These are ordinary file downloads: nothing about you or your face is sent to them. But as with any download, the service handing over the file can see the network address (IP) it is being sent to, and when. We mention this because it is true, not because they receive anything else.

Analytics

The try-on that opens on a shop's page contains no analytics of any kind.

Our own demo page counts visits using Vercel Web Analytics. That count is aggregate: no cookies, no identifier for individual people, and nothing that ties a visit to a person.

Server logs

The try-on is served by Vercel, our hosting provider. Like every web host, Vercel keeps short-lived technical logs of the requests it serves, which include the requesting IP address, the time, and which file was requested. These logs exist to keep the service running and to diagnose faults. They contain no information about your face, and we do not use them to build any profile.

The shop

Shops using this try-on receive nothing about you from us. Our software is permitted to do exactly one thing in a shop's Shopify store: write a small internal label on their own products, which is what makes the Try on button appear. It has no access to their customers, their orders, or their sales data.

The shop's own website has its own privacy policy, which covers everything else that happens while you are on it.

Children

Some shops sell children's frames, and a child may well be the person in front of the camera. Because nothing is uploaded, recorded or stored, no personal data of a child is collected either — the same as for anyone else.

Your rights

Data protection law gives you the right to see the personal data a company holds about you, to correct it, and to have it deleted. We hold none, so there is nothing to send you and nothing to erase. If you would like that confirmed in writing, ask and I will confirm it.

You can withdraw camera permission at any time in your browser's site settings. The try-on stops working; nothing else changes.

Changes

If what the try-on does with data changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top changes too. Anything material will be told to the shops using it rather than quietly edited here.
